FGE NexantECA’s Chairman Emeritus recognised for four decades of dedication to Japan’s energy security.
TOKYO, 3 November 2026 – FGE NexantECA is pleased to announce that His Majesty the Emperor of Japan has conferred the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, on Dr. Fereidun Fesharaki, Founder of FACTS Global Energy (FGE) and Chairman Emeritus of FGE NexantECA, in the 2026 Autumn Conferment of Decorations. This honour recognises his 40 years of dedication to Japan’s energy security and the development of its energy industry. Dr. Fesharaki extends his sincere gratitude to all those in Japan’s government and energy industry who made this recognition possible.
“It is a great honour to have been selected to receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to His Majesty the Emperor of Japan for this honour, and to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their recommendation. I am deeply humbled by this prestigious recognition,” said Dr. Fesharaki.
Over the past four decades, Dr. Fesharaki has contributed to the formulation of Japan’s energy policy, supported the transition towards market liberalisation, and played a role in strengthening the country’s energy diplomacy and risk management. In doing so, he has helped lay an important foundation for Japan’s energy security, guided by his longstanding commitment to ensuring a stable energy supply for the nation and its people.
Throughout this period, he has consistently supported and contributed to industry reforms grounded in market principles. These efforts have helped foster a more competitive, efficient, and robust energy industry essential to Japan’s energy security.
His work has also helped Japanese companies engage directly with international oil and gas producers and suppliers from a more informed position. This has strengthened their international competitiveness and supported stable fuel procurement amid changing market conditions, contributing to the broader Japanese economy and the well-being of its people.
Dr. Fesharaki founded FGE in 1984. At a time when independent analysis of oil and gas markets East of Suez was scarce, FGE pioneered it, and Japan has been at the centre of that work ever since.
As Japan’s energy landscape enters a new phase amid heightened geopolitical tensions, Dr. Fesharaki recognises that the nation’s resilience today is the result of the dedication and collective efforts of its government, the private sector, and consumers. He is grateful to have played a part.
“For the past four decades, I have been fortunate to work alongside many dedicated individuals in the government and industry, whose wisdom, trust, and friendship I will always treasure,” Dr. Fesharaki said. “This honour belongs as much to them as it does to me.”
“Energy security is not an abstract concept. It is about ensuring that households and businesses across Japan have the energy they need. It has been a privilege to contribute to this goal.”
“As the world faces new uncertainties, I remain committed to doing my part to support energy security and the well-being of people in Japan and around the world. This recognition is also a reflection of the dedication, support, and shared efforts of my colleagues, particularly the Japan team, led by Dr. Tomoko Hosoe, Managing Director of FGE NexantECA Japan, and of our clients and partners in Japan.”
“On behalf of everyone at FGE NexantECA, I extend our warmest congratulations to Dr. Fesharaki on this distinguished honour,” said Andrew Toumazi, Chief Executive Officer of FGE NexantECA. “Japan has been at the heart of his work for more than four decades, and it remains at the heart of ours. Dr. Fesharaki built FGE on a deep commitment to Japan and its energy security, and that commitment continues today through our team in Tokyo and the many Japanese organisations we are privileged to work with. We are sincerely grateful to the Government of Japan for this recognition.”
Dr. Fesharaki will receive the decoration at the Decoration Conferment Ceremony on 16 November 2026, and a Commemorative Reception will be held in Tokyo on 19 November 2026.
