Please note, this webinar took place in July 2020. We anticipate hosting another Asian oil market webinar later this year.
FGE is delighted to be hosting a complimentary live update of the short-term oil market, with a special focus on Asian market drivers, demand and refining.
The recent unprecedented oil demand slump is now beginning to ease, as some major Asian economies are emerging from the peak of the COVID-19 crisis. However, the path to recovery remains highly uncertain, with fears of a second wave of infection. That said, we believe that new outbreaks can be contained.
The product market is struggling to get back on its feet. The forward curves are backwardated, while cracks are still weak. Where do fundamentals point us to? How will Asian refinery operations respond to the ever-evolving situation? Will China’s exports resurge? What will be the impact on the regional product trade?
We are also seeing the announced OPEC+ output cuts being largely implemented. With non-OPEC production, particularly in the USA, also lower due to the slump in prices, the global oil market is now back in balance. Following the huge stockbuilds in recent months, we see the market soon entering a long period of deficit as demand recovers further, which will eventually return global oil inventories to pre-pandemic levels. But how quickly will the stocks surplus diminish? And what will this mean for oil prices?
These questions and other topics of discussion will be addressed in FGE’s Short-term Asian Oil Market Update Webinar, which will be held on July 15, 2020.
