European Jet Fuel Demand Lagging Flight Activity in Recent Years Due to Efficiency
May 01, 2014
Who was cited:
European jet demand has lost around 100 kb/d or 10% since 2008 and is effectively at the same level as of 2004-05; i.e. over the last decade, European jet fuel demand did not grow.
This comes despite a relatively healthy flight environment. Arguably, the economic crisis dampened the flight activity markedly in 2009, yet the recovery came relatively quickly and the total number of flights had already reached the pre-crisis level in 2011. Demand and flight activity then showed some recovery last year, after a dip in 2012, on the back of slight improvement in the European economy.
