FSU Oil Webinar - Will Iran sanctions and IMO 2020 play into Putin's hands?

FGE is delighted to host a complimentary webinar focusing on the FSU's oil market, where we examine how Russia and the wider FSU region will play their part in shaping the global oil market.

There are two key events that are largely shaping oil markets currently: the re-imposition of US sanctions on Iran formally from 4th November 2018 and the nearing IMO 2020 changes that will limit the sulphur content of bunker fuel for shipping to less than 0.5% wt (without exhaust gas cleaning aka scrubbing).

Russia/the wider FSU region is a key player in both events. Russia’s Urals blend is one of the crudes that the market expects to help fill the gap created by the loss of Iranian crude. The FSU is the largest fuel oil exporter in the world. How the FSU responds to these events is of high importance for anyone following the oil markets.

During this webinar some of the main talking points will be:

  • How is the FSU responding to the sanctions on Iran?
  • Can FSU crude production go even higher? An overview of Russian production capacity, Kazakhstan’s and Azerbaijan’s main upstream projects.
  • What part can the FSU play to help meet demand with Iranian crude exports falling rapidly
  • How will the FSU refining sector deal with IMO 2020?
  • Outlook for FSU refinery upgrades in the run up to 2020. By how much can the FSU reduce its large fuel oil output?
  • Where is all the FSU HSFO going to go post-2020?
  • Where will reload cargoes come from should price spreads be sufficient to justify them?
  • What are the impacts of these events?
