Excluding North Africa, there are LNG export developments underway in five different African countries - but few are likely to make headway before the end of this decade.
Considerable regulatory uncertainty has stymied the developments of new projects in Nigeria.
There is enthusiastic support from the government in Mozambique and Tanzania for LNG projects in those countries, but the timely development of Mozambique's multiple projects hinge on the conclusion of field utilization agreements and legislation supporting hydrocarbon development in the country. Political bickering in Tanzania ahead of next year's elections risks delaying the implementation of laws regulating its fast-growing energy sector.
