In Japan, the push to restart nuclear power has seemingly stalled, with a recent court ruling blocking the restart of two reactors operated by Kansai Electric.
A District Court in Fukui Prefecture has barred the company from restarting the Oi plant's No. 3 and No. 4 reactors due to inadequate earthquake safety measures. The court’s ruling is at odds with both the central Government and the Nuclear Regulation Authority, with the former pressing for nuclear reactors to be restarted following a safety review process conducted by the latter. The case was brought by local anti-nuclear activists, highlighting the still-contentious status of nuclear power in Japan since the March 2011 Fukushima disaster.
