Refining Analyst - London
Overview
An opportunity has arisen at FGE’s London office for a mid-level analyst to work as part of our refining team and support our extensive downstream forecasting and market analysis activities.
The Role and Responsibilities
The Role:
- Providing input into our reports and leading downstream focused project work/studies.
- Working inside existing methodologies to calculate product cracks, crude GPWs and refinery margins.
- Performing an active role in client relations.
- Reviewing and modelling refinery operations and use our internal refining model to generate product yields.
- Being part of a global oil team and work together across various service lines and products.
- In short, we are looking for an individual with both a strong refining technical background and a good commercial awareness of refining operations and how it can impact both the crude and product markets.

Applicant Requirements
Who are we looking for?
Applicants should have a related degree or post-graduate qualification and an in-depth knowledge of refining on an international basis, either through oil company employment or a high-grade analytical role. This will probably require a minimum of five years’ experience in the sector, excellent numeracy/written skills, proficiency in Excel and other MS Office products and the ability to work within a highly motivated team. It also requires the ability to look at issues both from a general perspective as well as in-depth. The successful candidate should feel confident enough to challenge the status quo and suggest new and alternative approaches.
- Technical refining knowledge Short-term crude oil and products market analysis.
- Strategic industry analysis in medium/long term.
- Price forecasting (including crude and product differentials) both short and long-term.
- Supply/demand balances of oil products across regions and impact on markets.
- Crude and/or products trade.
- Operations of physical markets (transportation, shipping, storage).
- Ability to understand company filings and financial performance an advantage.
Candidates must be legally able to work in the United Kingdom.
